The work increasing notably, it became necessary to extend the premises. A useful little bungalow' was erected in 1953 to house the Retreat Fathers, and the Retreatants' Chapel, known as St Joseph's was enlarged to more than double its size. The following statistics give an idea of the progress in the Retreat Movement:

1949 - - 2,617
Retreatants
1950 - - 3,577
"
1951 - - 4,159
"
1952 - - 4,805
"
1953 - - 5,952
"
1954 - - 7,145

"

At this stage it became imperative to build a new Retreat House and Chapel to accommodate the ever-increasing numbers, so after many negotiations and tribulations (it was the epoch of permits and shortage of building materials), plans were at last made. On the 31st May, 1954, the Feast of Our Lady, Mediatrix of all Graces, the site of the new building was measured out and blessed.

The "dream " took close on three years to be realised, but eventually the handsome modern structure was completed. It was indeed a happy day for all concerned, when His Lordship, Monsignor Scanlan, Bishop of Motherwell, opened the new Chapel and Retreat House on Sunday, 13th January, 1957.

Since then the number of women and girls rejoicing in their own new lovely Retreat House is ever on the increase. This year of grace 1958 promises to reach the record of approximately 8,000 Retreatants who have come to "Regina Purgatorii, " to benefit by the "Good things" promised to those who respond to the Master's call to "Come with me into a silent place apart and there I will speak to your soul." He always does . . enlightening, consoling, refreshing and strengthening countless souls in the onward march of life's pilgrimage, not to mention the hidden harvest of the thousands delivered from the Church Suffering to glorify God for ever triumphantly in Heaven.
