Finance
The Finance Committee meets
regularly, and takes full responsibility for all parish
accounts. Thanks to their careful budgeting (and willingness to take a risk!)
St Brigids
has, since 1996, completely renovated the Church, Presbytery and Parish Centre
- and all without a single special collection in the Church.
At the time of writing (May 2002) St Brigids is preparing to embark on the next phase of our renovations, with our Church Grounds Project. To finance this project (which was costed at almost £300,000) the parish community, in January 2001, set itself to raise £100,000 over a a period of 18 months. Sixteen months later we have raised an incredible £95,000.
On 27th March 2002 our fundraising efforts were recognised and rewarded when the National Lottery awarded us £189,210. Their Press Release reads as follows:
St Brigids, Newmains: £189,210
This grant will complete the final phase of a 5 year project by restructuring the existing roadways, allowing easier access to the Centre, create a suitable number of parking spaces and create a garden area for relaxation for the entire community. The grant will pay for building construction, professional fees, landscaping, road works, trees, fencing and gates.
Brilliant!! The work in our grounds will start at the beginning of July 2002.
Stall Keepers
St Brigids is very fortunate
in having a dedicated team who man (or should it be woman?) our
Church Stall. The Stall is opened before and after all weekend Masses, and
after most weekday Masses. The ladies ensure that the the Stall is kept very
well stocked (in terms of quantity and range of goods as well as range of
prices) with pious goods. They also run a Christmas Club to ease
the burden for those who wish to buy some of the more expensive items.
Church Cleaners
Never in the field of
human endeavour was so much owed by so many to so few.
All who visit St Brigids
Church are greatly impressed - among other things - by its cleanliness and
tidiness. Few will realise that our team of cleaners is very small in number
- for our cleaners have set themselves a very high standard for our Church.
They are to be greatly commended for their dedication and hard work. On behalf
of all who worship in St Brigids, thank you!
And, of course, anyone wishing to offer their services in the cleaning of
the Church would be welcomed with opened arms!
Nearly New Shop
St Brigids church, and
all who live in the Newmains area, benefit from our Charity Shop which is
situated in the main street. For more information click here.
