Pastoral Planning Team
The Diocese of Motherwell lays
great stress on collaborative ministry; on priest and people working together
in every area of parish life. There are many examples of such teamwork in
every parish. To coordinate this activity and to enable further partnership,
each parish is invited to establish a Pastoral Planning Team. The PPT provides
the focus and supplies the impetus for effective partnership in parish life
and ministry.
S.V.D.P.
St Brigids Conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul was established
in 1922. It has a long and rightly proud tradition of caring for the spiritual
and material needs of all in our community.
A great number of parishioners have been, at one time or another, members of the SVDP. Currently, our numbers are fewer than they have been in the past, however we hope to soon recruit more members. Traditionally SVDP (at least in St Brigids) was an all male institution; very happily this is no longer the case.
Our SVDP Conference meets every Sunday immediately after the 12 oclock Mass.
For more information about our SVDP click here.
Senior Citizen's
Thanks to the efforts a small
band of helpers - and to the great financial support they enjoy on a weekly
basis from those attending Mass - St Brigids senior citizens are regarded
and treated as VIPs in our community.
Each year - at no cost to the senior citizens - the Group organises a Summer Outing, and a Christmas Dinner in the Parish Centre. Both treats are greatly appreciated - and most certainly enjoyed - by all who attend. For more information see Margaret or John Thomas, Cathie McQuade or Pat McAdam.
Catering Group
For close on 20 years the parishioners
of St Brigids have had good reason to be grateful to the ladies of St
Brigids Catering Group. Since the mid 80s they have given their
services to all who wish to offer some hospitality to friends and relations
following a funeral in St Brigids Church. From humble beginnings (with
the ladies providing the dishes & cutlery from their own homes) the ladies
can now provide a funeral breakfast second to none!
The same Group can also be relied upon for the happier events in the parish calendar. Thank you, ladies! (and may you continue to keep the parish priest at the width to which he has grown accustomed by virtue of the left-overs you regularly force him to accept.)
Bereavement Group
St Brigids Bereavement
Group exists to offer a presence and support to the families of those who
are buried from St Brigids Church. They will visit the homes of the
bereaved at the time of death, a month afterwards and on the occasion of the
first anniversary of death.
Members of the Group would be more than happy to visit the bereaved of the parish at other than the above times or intervals. If you feel the need to speak to one of them, they can be contacted through the Parish Priest (tel: 01698 297037)
The Bereavement Group also organises two annual Masses; one for the Bereaved and the other for the Deceased of that year.
